On February 26, 2025, Baku Girls’ University hosted a commemoration event dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
The event began with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This was followed by a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs and victims of the Khojaly tragedy.
Opening the event with an introductory speech, the rector of BGU, Professor Sevinc Rahimova, emphasized that the Khojaly genocide was one of the most brutal and merciless acts of terror in human history and one of the most horrific crimes committed against the peaceful Azerbaijani population. She stressed that, thanks to the determination and strength of the victorious Azerbaijani Army, the blood of Khojaly genocide victims was avenged on the battlefield during the 44-day Patriotic War.
Following this, Professor Ikram Agasiyev and Senior Lecturer Tural Velizade from the Department of History discussed the historical aspects of the Khojaly tragedy, analyzing its causes and consequences. They emphasized that the memory of the tragedy’s victims would live on forever in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people.
After the speeches, the film "Red Snow", based on the work of BGU’s founder, writer-dramatist, and screenwriter Professor Agarahim Rahimov, was screened.
It should be noted that the first lessons at the university were dedicated to the tragedy of the century – the Khojaly massacre.
